In between the raindrops....

....we managed to pick the last of the strawberries yesterday. We got just about 20 pounds for $23 as it's the end of the season. It was a lot to wash and hull, but Hels and I enjoyed the work. It's a comforting sort of work--putting up.

We decided to just have strawberries and cream for dinner. The girls were so surprised and loved the novelty of it.

Today I made a small batch of jam. We aren't huge jam eaters, so I froze the rest of the berries for winter muffins, porridge, and scones. I have around 10 big bags of frozen strawberries now. That makes me happy.

Even if it is raining and due to drop to 40 degrees tonight, it feels a bit more like summer now.

I know exactly what you mean, there's something about strawberries that lets you feel awashed in summer. And there's nothing better than fresh strawberries baked into a warm treat in the middle of winter. :)

Man, y'all have had some crazy weather this summer! It is cooler than normal in Nashville too, but nothing like what it's been like up North.

Sounds like a tasty dinner to me! :)

Hard to beat that price... strawberries are usually quite expensive.

My husband just started a canning adventure... he made some syrup from a large batch of blackberry juice from last year that we would never end up drinking (stains!). He was so very proud :-)

Our own strawberries were a bit of a disappointment this year. I'm glad to see you did well with your picking. Fortunately, we still have a few bags in the freezer from last season!
