On the Eighth Day of Christmas.....
....we were home! Hurray! We arrived home on New Year's Day after many hours slogging north in a big snow storm. An invitation was awaiting us from our neighbors for a potluck, so we packed up all our leftovers and snow-shoed to their house for a great evening. We introduced them all to snapdragon (see the post below) which they loved. May all the New Year's wishes come true.
I had a lovely morning today writing in my Christmas journal, thinking about all we have done and my hopes for next year.
This evening it is 3 degrees with a strong wind due to go to 15 below. The snow banks are taller than the cars and our road is too narrow for more than 1 car at a time. We had a cozy dinner by the fire and our tree--a Christmas dinner of red baked ziti, green salad, and yellow (the sun) lemon squares. I read this year's Christmas journal to date and everyone chimed in on things I forgot or things they wanted to be sure we did next year.
A big surprise to us all--Boxing Day turned out to be our favorite day (except for N who was at work). We all want to be home for it next year.
How lovely to have a fire and all the good cheer in such cold weather. I remember that weather well (my last semester at Middlebury was regularly 20 below with windchill - they even cancelled classes once!), but it certainly didn't have the family fun. And what is snapdragon?!
Wonderful 2008 to y'all!
It sounds like a perfectly wonderful way to recap and wind down.
