The Winter Fair

We attended our school's Winter Fair this weekend. It was a lot of work, but very fun. Here are some photos. The above photo is H fiddling with her class as part of the entertainment in the cafe.

The gingerbread men are ready to be decorated with lots of sugar and treats.

Tinkering copper ornaments is always a popular activity.

The Crystal Cookie Cave is the most popular spot at the Fair. Children enter a dark cave filled with sparkling lights, crystals, and crystally cookies. They get to pick a cookie and a crystal to take with them. It's not an easy place to photograph!

Children could make a birdfeeder as a gift. I wish I had gotten a photo of the final product. They were gorgeous. Very Waldorfy with rounded corners and all :)

The Pocket Lady is always popular with the young children at the fair. Her pockets are filled with little wooden acorns, red wooden apples, and tiny baskets.

These last photos are all of the Gnome House. Children could go in and view the various scenes of gnomes and then choose a little one to take home. It was slightly dark, domed, and had the sounds of birds and owls playing. Even the teenagers wanted to crawl in to find a gnome!

This was the type of gnome the children could take. Between us, our little group made around 150.

I made this gnome girl a few years ago out of old sweaters. I didn't make a properly shaped face, but she's still cute.

We're all pretty tired and THRILLED that we are stuck at home today with a big snowstorm! We're going to rest this morning and then have a crafting party with all our snowbound neighbors.

Even though we aren't at the Waldorf School in our area anymore we still head back for Michaelmas and the Children's Fair. They aren't as elaborately done as what your pictures show, but still quaint and fun. I can see why you are tired!

My kids both saw the gnome house and instantly ran off to make their own with blocks. We all thought it was so cute.

Why, oh why did we move an hour away from the nearest Waldorf school? I missed their fair this year so thanks for this post - I will just look at yours!
