A Day of Music
Our second day on PEI brought fiddles, pipes, and dancing. We began our day by going to Summerside--after ENDLESS souvenir shopping (where the girls ended up purchasing zip), we went to the Eptek Center to see their summer show highlighting PEI craftspeople. There were some incredibly gorgeous hooked rugs which N and I fell in love with. The girls were invited to do some drawing. H choose to do a beautiful sketch of a fiddle while E choose a hooked rug. They spent about 45 minutes working on their sketches. The folks at the Center were duly impressed with their work--H and E were the first children to actually sketch something in the exhibit.
We then went to the College of Piping where we saw a behind-the-scenes performance about piping and step-dancing. E was very inspired by the step-dancing.
We made it back to our campground in time to cook dinner and go to the Ross Family Ceilidh. The girls absolutely loved this ceilidh. The family of 4 kids (the youngest just having turned 15) has been performing for many years. It was a great performance for kids. H knew a large number of their fiddle tunes thanks to her Cape Breton fiddling workshops this year.
