Back Home
Well, what a month it has been. Nelson was in Florida for a week. A week later, I went down for two weeks. He then joined me. Nelson's Mom is truly on the mend. She has a new car, has begun driving, and is well on her way to healing.
While I was with Nelson's Dad he came down with pneumonia and later needed to be moved from the surgical ICU to a long-term acute care facility. This was just an enormous stress. We changed plans and Nelson and I both spent a week helping with this transition rather than each of us taking a week.
In the past month he has made enormous strides and at the new facility has gotten off the ventilator (although he still is breathing through a trach) and sitting in a wheelchair a little bit. He has a long way to go with a broken scapula, 11 broken ribs, herniated diaphragm, punctured lung, broken leg and torn aorta. We hold our breaths and watch his enormous strength as he heals.
We had enormous support both in Florida and here at home. Our thanks go out to our family, friends, and neighbors who helped the girls with everything from laundry, school and everything in between, cared for the dog, watched over our house, provided medical advice, etc., etc., etc.
Love that text. Just so perfect. I'm glad to read your update, and good news.
So glad you are home, a long year ahead. Was thinking of you through out the last month.
